Supply chain software vendor Descartes Systems Group has added another arrow to its quiver, announcing today it has paid $28 million to acquire Idelic, a Pittsburgh-based provider of AI-powered driver safety and performance management solutions.The final price for the unit could rise to $40 million if the business hits certain revenue-based targets in each of the first two years post-acquisition.Idelic says its safety intelligence platform unifies day-to-day safety management activities such as training, monitoring, reporting and coaching into a single solution. With an AI analytics workflow designed to measurably impact driver behavior, fleets can proactively identify and reduce driving risk. The company collects real-time, highly detailed event-level data through a connected network of more than 80 telematics, risk management, and regulatory system integrations.“Productivity and safety are equally critical for fleet operators,” James Wee, General Manager of Fleet Management at Descartes, said in a release. “This acquisition adds critical data to our Global Logistics Network (GLN) and enhances Descartes’ final-mile footprint by adding highly advanced fleet safety capabilities and deep domain expertise.
